A crown covers a tooth that has been weakened by decay, a large filling, a crack or root canal treatment. It protects what’s left and restores the tooth’s shape, so it looks and feels like a tooth again. A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by attaching a false tooth to crowns on the teeth either side of the gap.
Most of the crowns we make are ceramic, matched to the colour of your other teeth. Sometimes an onlay, which covers only part of the tooth, is enough, and it keeps more of your natural tooth.
A bridge makes sense when the teeth either side of the gap already need crowns. If those teeth are healthy and untouched, an implant is often the better choice, because it doesn’t involve shaping them. We’ll go through both with you. A ceramic crown or onlay is £940, and a bridge is £840 to £940 per tooth.
Many crowns and onlays can be made here in a single visit using CEREC. We take a digital scan instead of a mould, design the restoration on screen and mill it from a block of ceramic here at the practice. You wait a couple of hours rather than a couple of weeks, with no temporary crown in between.
Not every tooth suits same-day treatment, and we’ll tell you if yours is better made by a dental laboratory. Same-day crowns and onlays cost the same as our standard ones.
