A guide of what changes to expect at your dental appointment
We understand the current Covid-19 situation has been a testing time for everyone, but also that we need to ensure we are still able to care for you and your dental needs. We have been working hard so that we can begin to welcome you back as quickly and as safely as possible.
We understand that things will be different to your usual experience with us. Therefore we encourage you to read this page so you are aware of what changes to expect when attending your dental appointment.
About Covid-19 (Coronavirus)
Closed door policy
We are currently operating a closed door policy. This makes it easier for us to limit the number of people in reception at any one time, and maintain social distancing within the dental practice.
Please do not attend the practice without a pre-booked appointment. If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment, please contact reception.
How to contact us
Prior to your appointment
We are required to complete a Covid-19 screening questionnaire and also obtain an up-to-date medical history (if we do not already have one).
To make it easier for patients to complete these prior to their appointment, we have an online patient portal whereby patients can log on to complete this information.
Our receptionist will provide you with a web link, which will direct you to the patient portal. We kindly ask that you complete the Covid-19 questionnaire, and also update your medical history.
Alternatively one of our receptionists will be able to ask you this information over the phone.
You can find more information about the patient portal at the bottom of this page.
At your appointment
Please do not arrive to the practice before your appointed time.
On arrival you can let us know you have arrived by:
- Using the patient portal to “self check-in”
- Phoning the practice on 01753 888000 to notify you have arrived
- Ring the doorbell once, and wait for someone to attend to the door
If you have come by car we ask that you wait in your car until you are called in. If you arrive on foot please wait outside, and respect social distancing.
When our receptionist calls you in, please use the hand sanitiser provided.
You may be taken straight into the surgery, if not, please take a seat as instructed.
At the end of the procedure you will be invited to use the hand sanitiser before leaving the practice.
Hygienist / Surgery 3 appointments
If you have a hygienist or dentist appointment in surgery 3, access is via the rear of the practice.
Please arrive promptly at your appointment time (not sooner) and wait at the rear of the practice, and one of our team members will call you in when ready.
Again, please notify us of your arrival via the patient portal or by phoning the practice.
We have created separate entry and exit from surgery 3 to help maintain social distancing measures.
Whenever possible, patients should attend on their own. Children can be accompanied
to the practice by a parent/guardian.
Please leave personal belongings, such as coats and bags in your car if possible (where this is not possible you can take belongings into the practice)
If possible, please avoid using our toilet facilities
Patients can wear their own mask when entering the practice if they wish
Payment should be made by card as much as possible, and minimise the use of cash
We will be using increased PPE to ensure we are well prepared for your treatment. This may include a special mask, gown and visor. Your dentist, hygienist and nurse will be well prepared for your treatment.
The dentist may use a sheet of rubber to isolate the tooth or a group of teeth that they need to work on. This may be used during certain procedures where appropriate.
Being a dental practice, our infection control procedures have always been of a high standard. But now we will spend even longer between patients cleaning the treatment rooms to ensure all surfaces are thoroughly disinfected.
A perspex panel has been installed at the reception desk.
Currently we will not have the daily newspaper or our usual magazines available.
An air purifier has been placed in our waiting room to ensure the air is clean and purified.
Our patient portal makes it easy for you to complete your Covid-19 screening questionnaire. You can also update your medical history, check your personal details, see upcoming appointments, and self check-in when you arrive at the practice for your appointment.
Our reception team will be able to provide you with a link so that you can access the patient portal. If you have trouble logging on, it may be that we need to check your personal details on our system to allow you to access the portal. Please call us on 01753 888000 or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will be happy to assist.
The first time you log on, a verification code will be sent to your registered mobile. This is a security measure to ensure only you can access your account. You will then be able to create a password to access the portal.
Once you have accessed the portal, you can check the “My Details” tab to make sure your information is up-to-date.
We ask that you please complete the Covid-19 screening questionnaire prior to your appointment. This can be accessed on the main Home page “Complete Covid Questionnaire”, or via the Covid-19 assessment tab.
We also kindly ask that you complete and update your medical history, and list any medications that you are taking. This will save us having to fill out a paper medical history form when you attend for your appointment.
Self check-in for appointments
By clicking on the “Appointments” tab, you can view your upcoming appointments (and also your previously attended appointments).
There is also a “Self Check-in” button that allows you to check in when you arrive for your dentist or hygienist appointment.
If you experience any difficulties please call us on 01753 888000 or email us on email@example.com
We look forward to seeing you
We thank you for your patience and understanding at this time, and we look forward to seeing you again.
